Apple Cake

2 cups sugar½ cups shortening2 eggs2 cups flour1 tsp baking soda1 tsp salt1 tsp cinnamon1 tsp nutmeg5 medium grated baking apples (about 2 cups)

Sauce1 cup sugar½ cup evaporated milk½ cup butter

1. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat well, scraping sides.

2. Sift together dry ingredients and gradually mix with the wet. Stir in apples until combined.
3. Bake at 350° for 45-55 min.
To make sauce: melt butter over low heat. Then add sugar and milk. Increase heat to medium and bring just to a boil. Lower heat and let simmer for 5 minutes (all the sugar should be dissolved and it will start to change to a light caramel color).
Serve warm
